Georgia Unemployment Benefits
The Georgia Department of Labor manages the state’s unemployment benefits with information available on http://www.dol.state.gas.us. Georgia unemployment benefits are available to workers who have been laid off or lost their jobs due to business closures. Successful applicants are able to draw paychecks from the state for 26 consecutive weeks before losing Georgia unemployment benefits. Depending on the amount of money earned in the 26 weeks prior to application, state residents can qualify for up to $330 per week in Georgia unemployment benefits.
Employees of the Georgia Department of Labor conduct investigations into applicant eligibility before approving unemployment benefits. An applicant who was fired from a job for stealing, sexual harassment, or other offenses worthy of termination will not receive Georgia unemployment benefits. Applicants who quit their jobs voluntarily and without just cause are also ineligible for Georgia unemployment benefits. After the Georgia Department of Labor investigates employer and applicant claims, the caseworker sends a letter to both parties informing them of the department’s decision.
